Mission Statement

We, the Berkshire Métis Council are resolved to preserve, protect and promote Northeastern Woodland Indian culture. We are joined in fellowship and community to honor and respect our ancestors.

We will enact guidelines and establish proof of Northeastern Woodland Indian heritage with each member of our Métis tribe and also accept any Indigenous mixed blood person who resides in the Northeastern Woodland area and who shows proof of mixed blood lines.

We will also accept any mixed blood people who have Northeastern Indian heritage regardless of what state or province they reside in. (Northeastern Woodland Indian area in this mission statement covers all of New England, New York, Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime provinces of Canada.)

We will teach harmony and respect between cultures. We will reach out to community cultural organizations and land preservation non-profit organizations to promote the preservation of open space in New England and to advocate access to the land for to all to enjoy in peace.

We will establish a tribal culture that encourages all members to live within a high ethical standard in an environment that respects our elders, our women and our children.
